Hardwood Floor Maintenance

Caring for your hardwood floor is easier than ever, thanks to today's modern finishes. To ensure your hardwood floor upkeep remains effortless, follow these simple floor care tips:

Spills & Spots - Immediately wipe up any spills or spots with a damp cloth.

Vacuum or Sweep - At least every other week, depending on foot traffic. Don't let sand and dirt build up.

Protect - In high-traffic areas, use area rugs to minimize wear. Move the rugs occasionally to maintain an even color on your finish. Ensure the rugs have a backing with a mesh or grisonallyd pattern to allow the floor to breathe and are approved for hardwood floor finishes. Place mats at all entrances to keep dirt and moisture off the floor. Use felt pads, wide vinyl pads, or rubber rollers on furniture legs.

Moving - When moving heavy furniture or appliances, place a sheet of masonite or plywood under the piece being moved to distribute the weight and reduce denting or scratching. For lighter pieces, use a clean blanket or a piece of carpet face down under the item to be moved.

Be Aware - Watch out for high heel shoes that have lost their protective cap and small stones, as they can scratch and gouge your floor's surface.

Humidity - Consult with our flooring professional for the proper humidity needed for your area to prevent the wood from shrinking. Never turn off your heating, ventilation, or air-conditioning system for long periods, such as during summer vacations.

Repairs - Consult with our flooring professionals immediately to address any damaged, gouged, or problematic areas.

As part of wood floor maintenance, re-coat your floors every 3-5 years and re-sand every 15-25 years to keep your floor durable and beautiful for many decades.
